The history, the now, the politics, the monuments, the museums, the streets, basically everything are amazing. I signed up for a travel course which would give me both college credits and a trip which is what brought about the trip.
I left Penn Station at 8:30 in the morning and made our first in New Jersey, then Delaware and drove through Baltimore (racking up my states visited count lol) and arrived in DC around 2:30. After lunch, we went on a guided tour of the monuments and memorials where I befriended a fellow South African which is always great.
We visited the following sites:
- Lincoln Memorial
- Martin Luther King Jr. (my favourite)
- World War II.
- Vietnam War
- Washington Memorial
- Jefferson Memorial
The White House was the last stop of our tour and although stunning it is surprisingly small - believe it or not. People milling and photo taking was the sight that was scene surrounding probably the most famous residence in the world.
After the tour I made our way to the hotel and then freshened up and allow with my two fellow South Africans we were ready for a night out in Georgetown. We went to a fun bar for drinks and good food but even better conversation.
Before we knew it, it was late and we headed back to the hotel to get ready for a fun filled Day Two.
Day Two to follow.
Till then.
